A weight loss plan only works if you stay with it. As any successful dieter can tell you, it’s much easier to lose weight and firm up when the plan you choose fits your lifestyle and personality. We will focus on evidence-based, simple and easy to understand eating program. Maintaining sustainable and enjoyable eating practices will enable you to get fit and stay healthy while eating the foods you love and achieving your weight management goals.
I will also focus on educating you on the three energy balance components; a change in energy intake, energy output, and efficiency of energy use. We’ll incorporate this approach to achieve optimal body composition.
Traditional diets focus solely on the number on the scale, and most of the weight reduction you experience often comes from water and muscle loss. NEL Fitness, however, focuses on the loss of body fat. We will emphasize achieving healthy body composition by increasing the ratio of muscle to fat because muscle dictates metabolism. To obtain a healthy body composition, this program emphasizes the importance of combining physical activity and sustainable eating through macronutrient manipulation.
Some people may not realize they need to lose excess body fat because they physically appear to fall within a “normal” weight range. Surprisingly, they may still have an altered or unhealthy body composition — a state of carrying too much fat in comparison to lean muscle tissue. In other words, their percentage of body fat is much higher than their lean body mass.
Body weight alone does not give a realistic analysis of body composition. After losing weight, it is still possible to be considered overweight and/or obese. When weight loss comes predominantly from the loss of lean muscle mass and not fat, you will lose the valuable, calorie-burning effect of muscle, resulting in a higher percentage of body fat and unhealthy body composition. Just because you look thin, it doesn’t mean you are healthy; you can lose weight and still be unhealthy!
Most weight loss programs tell you what to eat and how much to eat but often fall short as a lifetime solution because they fail to address the REASON why you may be overeating, underexercising, and/or making unhealthy choices.
It’s a simple fact that repeating the same actions will deliver the same results. If you do what you’ve always done, you’re going to get where you’ve always gotten — for a lot of frustrated people, that’s nowhere. For any weight loss program to succeed, change must occur. Change usually requires you to overcome fear. Once you do, your life changes for the better. NEL Fitness makes it a point to address this very important aspect of success to ensure past mistakes are not repeated.
